    Posted Nov 02, 2013 12:42 AM

Recently after few month of aruba Outdoor AP deployment finished. we are currently starting to facing device stability issue.  At the same location we have 3 outdoor AP facing diffrent direction. 1 AP seems more stable. while the other two AP is very unstable and always goes Up and Down so many times. because the remote site is not so easy to access I decided to start this thread to gather information for preparation before sending team directly to the site. My question is what is the most possible cause of this instability issue.
Here the log from the AP.

It looks like that device is provisioned as a Remote AP, and it is rebootstrapping.  You have to troubleshoot everything in the path between the AP175 and the controller:

    - Check to make sure the switchport that the AP is connected to has negotiated properly and does not have any errors

    - Check the switching path between the AP and the controller

    - Last but not least, see if you can test the ethernet cable between the AP and the switch or power injector.

Yep it was provision as a Remote AP.

Do you think this problem can be caused by weak PoE injector. Because the L2 switch up time is up all the time. Sometime even though the port is up, and AP Mac address is detected by the switch. The AP is remain down. And after some random time. The AP is going Up by itself.

The AP-175P calls for 802.3at power - I've seen 175's operate with af power, but the unit eventually would not boot. In addition to this, I trust you are using an outdoor rated POE injector such as the one we SKU (PD-9001GO) which contains the necessary surge protection for outdoor AP deployments. Indoor rated PoE injectors simply don't have the protection for outdoor usage although some people choose to use them. For outdoor deployments, we need to be mindful of both the issue of lighting and transient surges such as those that could be realized if the Cat5/6 cabling is run along side of electrical wiring.

You should be placing the PoE injector either outdoors (the the one above can be mounted with the AP) or at the building envelop where the cabling runs into the building. The use of STP (shielded twisted pair) is always recommended for outdoor deployments. Also, please ensure you've grounded the AP itself properly to the provided grounding point (specified in the AP-175 UG)

Let us know what brand/model of injector you are using. Attached is the one we recommend for outdoor deployments.

How abour more compact outodoor PoE like PowerDsine 9001G-40/SP Midspan. Because we store the PoE inside Box Panel. this PoE should be sufficient right ?

    thanks.
