We're in the process of replacing all our AP-115 access points with AP-315.  We haven't changed anything else about the wireless network.

When we replaced the AP-115's with AP-315's in our inventory building, the Symbol MC9050 and MC9060 scanners stopped connecting to the wireless network.  What's different about the AP-315 that stops the Symbol MC90x0 scanners from connecting to the wireless network?   How do I fix it ?  Thanks.

Is this a controller-based, or Aruba Instant-based system?

    What encryption are you using?

It is 7210 controller based. software Version 6.5.3.6 .  Encryption is WEP.

The other scanners and VMUs aren't having any problems with the AP-315 access points. The Motorola/Psion/Zebra 7535G2LR, 8525 G2, Omnii XT15, and VH10 work fine with the AP-315.

It's only the Symbol MC90x0 scanners that have a problem.

Do you have any rates removed on your SSIDs?

Do you have 802.11h (world mode) enabled on your SSID or on the Symbol scanner.

I am just guessing based on the limited info in your post.

It looks like I have all the rates the MC90x0 needs.

    wlan ssid-profile "WBFRover-ssid_prof"
    essid "WBFRover"
    opmode static-wep

    this  "g-basic-rates 1 2 5 6 9 11 12" isn't really correct, it should just be "g-basic-rates 1 2" , given that you havent remove and rates from the g-tx-rates.

Start by changing that back to what it should be, "g-basic-rates 1 2" because I wonder if the change of AP (and radio chipset) has caused a change in the beacon rate. My suspicion right now is that it's now using the highest value (12Mbps) you have configured for beacons, whilst your symbol mc9050 is (i believe) only an 802.11b  device, meaning it cannot decode beacons sent at 12Mbps, and this would match your symptoms.

Give that a go, if it still doesnt work, then there are some other things to do to isolate radio level interop (come back to this thread) but also check/do a driver upgrade on the mc9050 too if possible.

    hth.

Disabling all the g-basic-rates except 1 and 2 solved the problem.  As soon as I did that the Symbol MC90x0 scanners connected to the AP-315 access points.

no problem Kevin, happy to hear it's sorted :)  If not too much hassle, after you've been running for a week, can you share back to this thread any observations you have (good or bad) regarding the general behaviour of the devices after the change from ap115 to 315 ?

    thanks.
