What does All Routers mean under Monitoring in Aruba controller?

I found an option Aruba controller> Monitoring>Network>All Routers

Like to know what it means? any links to documents will be greatly appreciated..

I searched the forum and found this :

"Routers are detected based on the TTL of received traffic on the wired side.

The detection would be typically from a Broadcast/Multicast Packet (like DHCP)

Typically, this would mean that there is a L3 AP.

If this is a Valid AP (Aruba AP in this case), there should not be any concern;

But if there are non-valid APs, this would mean that there is a L3 AP deployed;

- If it is of a concern you would have to locate the AP (manually or using the location tracking functionality with ArubaOS) and see if this is a Un-authorized Device." - Kiran Ashokan

If an AP is displayed under All Routers could it mean that a DHCP server is connected to it?

No.  He says it would typically be discovered through broadcasts like DHCP, but it could be any other broadcast packet.

Thank you Colin. But why would just 3 of 30 APs show as router? Do they have capability to give ip address in a different range from what the external DHCP sever is giving?

"If they are Aruba APs, they should not be a concern".

Are they different access points?

All of them are Aruba AP's.

Then it should not be a concern, at all.  Only if they are non-Aruba APs.

Re: What does All Routers mean under Monitoring in Aruba controller?

Hi Colin,

Do you know any links or docs which will explain more about these options.

I understand that it is completely normal behaviour, however i'd like to get further info about this.

All APs are in the same VLAN getting ip from external DHCP server. Under what circumstance can they show as router?

3APs were under ALL ROUTERS. When the controller rebooted all APs went to ALL ROUTERS. Now, after almost a day they are finally in ALL ACCESS POINTS.
