Why the AP send back icmp echo reply to the controller rather than the gateway?

    Hi, we depolyed AP and controller at our network and AP work in bridge mode. Now when we ping AP from different subnet from AP, then the AP send back reply to the controller instead of the gateway. But if ping the AP from same subnet, then the AP will directly reply to the laptop.  Please advise how AP should work. Thanks in advance.
