adding esid to ap

we recently installed 120 ap's controlled by a 7210 controller running 6.5.

we have recently migrated from a cisco wlan using the wlc controller.

i need to add an as existing ssid to several access points.

there also exists an ap group which is config'd with this ssid.

where is this done via the 7210?

do i need to simply add the ap to the ap group which is config'd for that

ssid?

providing me w/ the menu flow will be great help. i looked around but it

seems to have escaped my eyes.

tnx

Re: adding esid to ap

A Virtual AP has all the configuration for an SSID/ESSID.

If you need to add a single SSID that already exists to an single AP, it is best to use an ap-specific setting to add it to that AP:

Configuration> Wireless>  AP Configuration> AP-Specific.

Click on NEW and select your AP that you want to change from the dropdown list.  Click on Add.

Click on your AP Name.  Expand Wireless LAN> Virtual AP.  In the right pane you will see "add a profile".  Select the Virtual AP or ESSID that you want to add to that specific AP and then click on Add and then Apply.  That SSID will then be broadcast out of the AP.

To be clear, this is a one-off procedure to add an SSID to a single AP.  The proper procedure for multiple APs is to to to Configuration> Wireless> AP Installation and provision (move) APs to an ap-group that is broadcasting the SSIDs that you want broadcast..

Re: adding esid to ap

jo,

tnx lots for the rapid reply.

the truth is that i stumbled across the proc u mentioned, but it didn't occur to me to click 'new' since the ssid already existed and the ap was already deployed.

what i did in the end is wizards->ap.

this was very intuitive.

i had seen this option originally, but being new on the aruba controller,

i had wanted to go through the steps manually.

given u'r explaination i now know how to go it via the wizard in addition to what u've pointed out.

we ocassionlly have conferences and deploy an ssid for guests on a number of ap's which normally are exclusively for regular login accounts.

tell me, is it possible to schedule a config change like this?

i mean besides the option of some cli script being cron'd.

tnx again,

You cannot schedule a timed change through the controller, unfortunately.

Re: adding esid to ap

i wouldn't have guest to click on 'ap installation' in order to move an existing ap from 1 group to another.

seems to me that the wizard is the best path for mods to >1 ap.

i had thought that the wizard would limit me to some 'standard' activities, but it granted all the flexibility i needed.

also, isn't it odd that in the 'monitoring' tab, a list of ap's offers the option of up to 1000 ap's per page, but for the list of clients, the max is 15 per page?

don't worry, i will not be bogging this forum w/ everything i notice as 'odd'. just that i have this open thread now and this is my 1st posting.

if my 1st experience is characteristic of the forum, great work guys!

i'm happy to become part of this!
