Noticed that our configuration (3200 controller & AP type 92 and 93) does not have any clients on 5 Ghz yet. Just enabled "band steering" and so far have not noticed any clients connecting on the 5 Ghz band at all. Tried reconnecting a laptop which should have 5 Ghz connection but it still connects @ 2.4 Ghz.

What else needs to be done to force these (apart from having "prefer-5Ghz setting") ?

(approx 700 clients during peak times, 40 AP-s on campus)

The AP-90 is single radio. Did you enable the 11a radio profile?

All I can see it exists under AP configuration, RF management (802.11a radio = default, RAdio enable= yes, Mode=ap-mode)
Not sure why is this relevant?
    AP-92 features a single 2x2 MIMO dual-band 2.4 Ghz/5Ghz radio.

If there are 2 APs in a single area, can one be configured for 5 Ghz while other remains at 2.4 Ghz ?

This just means that there is a single radio in the AP; capable of both bands; but you need to determine through software which band.  Using the command I shared above you can change all or sosome or all of your APs to 5GHz.  However be weary of your AP placement when you do this.  You may end up with coverage holes as compared to your full 2.4GHz coverage today.

    Hi,

As you said, it is possible to deploy 2 single radio APs close to each other on 2 different bands (2.5 g and 5 G) to simulate dual radio operation but the challenge is band steering. in this scenario ARM can not handle band steering, results, all clients will prefer to connect to 2.4 GHz AP not the AP on 5 GHz.

therefore I would recommend to have a dual radio PAs so that ARM can do band steering and insist 5Gh capable client to connect to 5Ghz.

Hope got some clarity on this,

Please feelfree for any further help on this.

As Tim mentioned; the AP-9x is a single radio AP.    You can decide whether to enable 2.4GHz or 5GHz; but you cannot have them on simultaneously on a single AP.   To change them from 2.4 (default), change the RF Band selection in the AP System Profile.   This setting makes no change to dual-radio APs.
