In the current licensing scheme, a license key can be associated with a part number from a predefined set of part numbers, each having a specific license count. For example, a license key can impart only a value from the pre-defined set of 1, 2, 128, or 512, 1024, or 2048 licenses. In such a scenario, the customer has to either change his requirement to match with the particular count or he is supplied with multiple license keys with varying counts associated to it. For example, if the customer wants 130 AP licenses, he will be supplied with two license keys—one with license count 2, and other with count 128. If, however, a customer requests 129 licenses, he has to change his requirement to 130 and he’s then supplied with two license keys.

    • In the current licensing scheme, for any license request received from the customer, a set of internal ‘part numbers’ are assigned. Each Part number is different and associated with a unique value of pair of “license type and license count” information.
    • With flexible licensing any license count can be embedded into a single license key.
    • Flex licenses also applies to pre 6.4.3 images.
    • Customers can still use traditional licensing scheme.
    • Adding flex licenses on top of traditional licenses should work seamlessly.

    Traditional licensing scheme

    1. Aruba issues multiple certificates to the customer. The certificate includes:

     a. The type of license

     b. The specific part number with specific license count (LIC-4096-AP)

    2. Customer accesses LMS site and gets multiple keys for the controller serial number.

    Flexible licensing scheme

1.Aruba issues a single license certificate to the customer. The certificate includes:

        a. Partno (LIC-AP-FLEX)

        b. Quantity (4096)

    2. Customer accesses LMS site and gets a single key for the controller serial number

This feature is supported on all the platforms.

     CLI Command

    (Aruba7210) # license add  NThfIpLl-+2SkDTLB-6ebsmP7o-Cx4M42tg-ouSzbRR8-gYo

    (Aruba7210) #show license

    License Table

    -------------

CLI command to add licenses is “license add” and the license key.

“show license” will show the license key along with the number of licenses that are installed.

Only on orders done through HPE's system post Nov 1, 2016, and only when activated against serials contained within the same MNP account.
