Product and Software: This article applies to Aruba Instant AP.You can convert an Aruba Instant AP (IAP) to a controller-based (thin) AP by using the WebUI on the IAP. Navigate to Maintenance > Convert. Simply populate the IP address within the IAP for the controller you want the AP to communicate with, and it will connect and automatically convert itself. To restore IAP functionality (from thin mode), you must gain physical access to the IAP and press the reset button on the back of the unit with a paper clip or equivalent tool.
Thanks for your post. I have used your procedure to my deployment where I need to convert AP's to CAP.
I also need to correct your command below:
"convert-aos-ip CAP <master controller IP address>"
it should be:
"convert-aos-ap CAP <master controller IP address>"
Folks, in case there is no reset button, and/or the username/password of the IAP is not known, but there is console access, you can convert IAP to CAP with the follwoing console comands:
Is it possible to do this conversion from the console (cli) connection?
I noticed this only works if you use the ip address for the controller not the DNS name aruba-master which isn't really a problem.
