PlayStation5 has network connectivity issues when connected to Aruba WiFi

Problem:

PlayStation5 when connected to Aruba APs has network connectivity issues.

Diagnostics:

802.11K helps devices search quickly for nearby APs that are available as roaming targets by creating an optimized list of channels.  In an 802.11k enabled network, APs and clients can send neighbor reports, beacon reports, and link measurement reports to each other. This allows the APs and clients to take appropriate connection actions.

"Advertise QuietIE" is a radio resource management information element supported with 802.11k enabled.  This value is used to determine if the Quiet IE should be advertised in the beacon frames. A value of "Enabled" allows the Quiet IE to be present in the beacon frames when 802.11K capability is enabled.

If a playstation5 is connected to a wifi network with 802.11k QuietIE enabled, its wi-fi and bluetooth will lockup in a few minutes after association resulting in no network connectivity and its dual sense wireless controller won't work unless connected by USB.

PS5 doesn't support this "QuietIE" feature. None of the other troubleshooting would help resulting in no network access to the device.

Solution

To disable "Advertise Quiet IE" option under Radio Resource Management.

Configuration:

Navigate to Configuration > System > Profiles > Wireless LAN >RRM IE profile and disable "Advertise Quiet IE" option.
