PoE (Power over Ethernet) provides both data and power connections in one cable, so equipment doesn't require a separate cable for each need. It has two components in its implementation, Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and Powered Device (PD). Power sourcing equipment (PSE) is a device such as a switch that provides ("sources") power on the Ethernet cable. A Powered Device (PD) is a device powered by a PSE and thus consumes energy. Examples include wireless access points, IP Phones, and IP Cameras.Different PoE capable devices have different power input requirements.
