We have been unable to get these switches to connect to a 10Gb SFP+ device when using a 25Gb DAC in a SFP56 port.
It works if we use a 10Gb DAC.

We have worked with other switches that support 10Gb SFP+ on 25Gb DAC.

How do we get this configuration to work with this switch?

    Hi Tony,

DAC cables are not a industry standard and must be supported by the switch AND by your type of network adapter. Please read  the AOS-Switch and AOS-CXTransceiver Guide for which DAC cables are supported for the CX6300, link.

25Gb DAC cables are only supported in  a  SFP28/SFP56 switch interface.
10Gb DAC cables are supported in a SFP+/SFP28/SFP56 switch interface.

25Gb DAC cables on the CX6300 are max. 5 meter (JL489A).
10Gb DAC cables on the CX6300 are max. 3 meter (J9283D).

If your server interface only have SFP+ you need a 10Gb DAC cable that is supported by both end.

Because end-to-end support can be a tricky one, most likely we use DAC for switch-to-switch connections and switch-to-server based on fiber optics. When you like to known which HPE brandes network interfaces support DAC cables and in what max. lengts you can see this HPE matrix.

Feel free to share the partnumber of your DAC cable and Network interfaces and we can check it for you.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for your reply.

However, our results were a bit different.

We used an Aruba 25Gb DAC and had the following results:

    • 25Gb Link between Aruba CX6300 SFP56 port and HPE SN2010M SFP28 port.
    • 25Gb Link between two HPE SN2010M SFP28 ports configured for 10/25Gb operation. (The switch negotiated the highest available speed)
    • 10Gb Link between two HPE SN2010M SFP28 ports. One port configured for 10/25Gb, the other for 10Gb.
    • 10Gb Link between HPE SN2010M SFP28 port configured for 10/25Gb and a workstation with a SFP+ 10Gb adapter.
    • No Link between HPE SN2010M SFP28 port configured for 10Gb  and Aruba SFP56 port.
    • No Link between Aruba SFP56 port and workstation with a SFP+ 10Gb adapter.

So, it appears that the 25Gb DAC cable is able to support 10Gb when at least one end is in a 10Gb port.

So, it seems that the switch is not programmed to support speeds other than the module(s) highest speed?

    Hi Tony,

Did you check if your DAC cable is supported on both endpoint devices? Again, because DAC cables are non industrial standard they not always work when the endpoint isn't the same or non supported. Because it can be hard to find end-to-end support matrixes it's a better choice to run optical transeivers when both endpoints are not the same type of device.

Please share the partnumber of your DAC cable and Network interfaces and we can check it for you.

Also see the supported DAC cables for your SN2010M storage switch, here. (for reference).
