    Hi,

We currently have a 6 x 5900AF IRF which has a connection to some 6120XG Procurve switches using a 721073-B21 (HP BladeSystem c-Class QSFP+ to 4x10G SFP+ 10 m active optical cable) cable, we would like to re-use these cables on some Aruba 8320s (use the QSFP side of the cable and plug it in the 8320). As per the "AOS-Switch and AOS-CX Transceiver Guide Edition 10" the 721076-B21 breakout AOC is supported but there is no information for 721073-B21, from what I can see the only difference between these two cables is the length ( 721076-B21 is 15m and 721073-B21 is 10m). Any confirmation regarding the use of the 721073-B21 in the 8320 would be highly appreciated.

i would stick to what is mentioned in the transceiver guide and only use that is specified.

    Hello @Juancho1986CR (referencing the user's name doesn't work 9 times in 10 attempts...gosh!).

It's indeed very strange that HPE Aruba qualified the 15 meters long AOC (721076-B21) only while it didn't for the shorter one (721073-B21)...or, eventually, they just forgot to mention that the short one is supported too.

To be noted: a typo on the reported cable length (10th edition) exactly for the 721076-B21 breakout AOC...

I can't prove it...but it's totally reasonable that if the 15 meters long works, the same will do the 7 meters long. Or not?

    Hi Davide,

Thank you for your always help. I have the same thought as you, I would consider both of the cables being supported as the only difference is the distance, I think I would need to give it a try and check if the cable is properly recognized/supported by the 8320.

Hi Juan, if I were you I would drop a line to @EdKurata because a particular option (here it is an AOC 7 meters long cable) could have been qualified or not and thus it could be recognized or be unrecognized by the switch (If we start with the assumption that only some specific SKUs are recognized as allowed by the programmed AOS-CX operating system, not to speak by the Hardware the OS is running on) and, consequently, being supported or not by HPE Aruba.

Personally I believe that if the switch recognizes it as an allowed option (so its SKU is accepted) then it could work (but no warranty since there is no qualification by HPE Aruba, yet).

    Hi Davide,

Thanks for the advice. I will try to get a hold from @EdKurata in regards to this question.
