2930M Switch and IP-TRACKING

    Hi,

    Working to verify operation of 2930M Switch series in a medical device environment, we are using WC.16.10.0013 and we find that we cannot turn on/off IP Tracking.

    This feature is best described in this Cisco document: IP Device Tracking (IPDT) Overview - Cisco

    We cannot verify that it is on or off on this switch.

    Does this function exist on this switch/software version?

    Hi Tom, it looks a Cisco feature...what's valid for (or available on) a particular Cisco switch series/software release doesn't necessarily mean it's also valid for (or available on) HPE Aruba switch series/software release. I did a fast check and, among the grand total of 172 occurrences of RFC on the Aruba 2930M's datasheet, I wasn't able to find one about RFC 5227 (there are RFC 5059, 5095, 5424 and 5905)...so, at first sight, I would say that no, that feature/function doesn't exist on the Aruba 2930M Switch series you're assessing (and, probably, it doesn't exist on other series sharing the same ArubaOS-Switch operating system too).

    OK, that's great but it looks like more an "opt-in" set of features one should orchestrate together than a single one-shot feature (RFC related) enabled or disabled by default which consequently need to be "opt-out" or "opt-in" by the network administrator like in the Cisco scenario. In other terms...if the OP needs it then he/she needs to deploy it on-purpose (as suggested), otherwise if he/she needs it disabled (for whatever reason) then it's already good to go because it - in the Cisco shape - doesn't exists. Isn't it?

    Thanks for the responses.

    We want to make sure that "ip client-tracker" is not enabled in order for our devices to work properly. The problem is, that we cannot confirm that it works, to be sure that we can set the commands to disable it, for our customers. We cannot see that it works at all. We can't be sure that it is effectively disabled.

    Does this need some other function to be enabled to work like RADIUS or 802.1x?
