Given the fact that the maximum number of ports per IRF Link is 4 does it make sense to connect two switches in a "ring" topology so we can use a total of 8x10Gb ports?
    Thanks

You certainly can connect two IRF members in a ring and thus to have more physical links carrying traffic between IRF members, but:

    1. If you have SO much traffic that needs to cross between IRF members, it is not the optimal network design.
    2. Not all platforms support IRF ring topology with only two members.

As noted before, one IRF domain can encompass up to nine switches, with the added capability that physical link distance between switches can be up to 70km, meaning one management interface can manage switches in multiple locations.
