AP 505 in a AP 205/305 cluster

    Hey,

I don't have much experience in Aruba wireless, so I'm not comfortable with the older software releases. Hence my question here.

A client is currently using a mix of 205 and 305 AP's, in a clustered configuration. One of the 205's has taken the roll of controller in this scenario. The firmware version they are running is 6.5.4.2_61807.

They have ordered a new 505 AP and I am tasked with configuring it. I am trying to figure out if this 505 AP is even able to join this cluster. I wasn't able to find any information on compatibility with controllers running this firmware release.

Can anybody confirm if this new AP 505 will work properly alongside the existing 205/305 cluster.? If possible, which steps need to be taken to make this setup work?

    Kind regards,

    Bjorn

According to the AP 505 datasheet, the minimum version of instant OS required for the AP 505 is 8.6.0.0:  https://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/ds/DS_AP500Series.pdf

Checking the release notes for 8.6.0.0, however says that there is support for the AP-305, but NOT for the AP-205, so you could upgrade to support the AP-505, but you would need to replace your AP-205s: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00092461en_us

    Hey Joseph,

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

At this time it is impossible for the client to replace the older 205's, due to budget reasons. Based on the information in your response we decided we will begin building a new cluster with the 505 that will exist seperated from the original cluster.

This 505 will be quite far from any other AP's, so they should not interfere.

    Kind regards,

    Bjorn
