Here's a quick How-To on setting up Clarity Live!

    PREREQUISITES

    • AirWave 8.2.x
    • AOS 6.4.3+

    CONTROLLER SETUP

Clarity may already be enabled on the controller side. Let's take a look.

First, let's verify that the controller is already sending AMON data to AirWave.

    • From the CLI, type:

      show mgmt-servers

If you've set up AMON in the past, you should see your server listed as type "AirWave".

      (controller) #show mgmt-servers

      List of Management Servers
      --------------------------
      Type Primary Server Profile
      ---- -------------- -------
      AirWave 1.2.3.4 default-amp

If your AirWave server is not listed, add it by running the command:

      mgmt-server type amp primary-server <airwave-ip> profile default-amp

Now that we know AMON is configured, let's take a look at the AirWave profile and ensure that we're sending Clarity data.

In the last step, you saw a Profile attached to the AirWave server. By default we have "default-amp", but you may have created your own.

    • At the CLI, run:

      show mgmt-server profile <profile-name>

      //example:
      show mgmt-server profile default-amp

You should see something similar to this:

Mgmt Config profile "default-amp" (Predefined (editable))
      ---------------------------------------------------------
      Parameter Value
      --------- -----
      Stats Enabled
      Tag Enabled
      Sessions Enabled
      Monitored Info Disabled
      Misc Enabled
      Location Enabled
      UCC Monitoring Disabled
      AirGroup Info Disabled
      Inline DHCP stats Enabled
      Inline AP stats Enabled
      Inline Auth stats Enabled
      Inline DNS stats Enabled

If the parameters beginning with "Inline" are not enabled, start by entering the mgmt-profile config mode:

      mgmt-server profile <profile-name>

Next, enable the Inline stats options using the commands below:

      no inline-ap-stats-disable
      no inline-auth-disable
      no inline-dhcp-disable
      no inline-dns-disable
That's it! Be sure to save your config.

    AIRWAVE

Clarity Live is enabled by default, but we can verify by going to AMP Setup > General > Additional AMP Services > Enable Clarity Data Collection. This should be set to Yes.

After a few minutes, you should begin seeing Clarity Live data!

Any suggestions on what to check when Clarity still isn't showing data when the settings are configured as above?

Any ideas on why I would see these results when enabling the DHCP & DNS monitoring?

    (SEN-A650) (Mgmt Config profile "default-amp") #no inline-dhcp-disable
DHCP monitoring configuration not supported on this platform

    (SEN-A650) (Mgmt Config profile "default-amp") #no inline-dns-disable
DNS monitoring configuration not supported on this platform

    I am running 6.4.3.7 on a 650 controller.

Spoke to engineering. The 6xx controllers unfortunately cannot support Clarity Live due to memory requirements.

Does the clarity collect and display live data OR it polls at certain intervals?

The controller "pushes" the clarity data to Airwave using Amon.

We have Clarity running, and it looks good with 1 exception:

It shows the resultes from various DNS servers, but not the 2 actually being used! Clients get DNS addresses through DHCP.

    Any idea why this happens?

Clients can statically assign the DNS server even when they receive their address via DHCP.

    Good day All,

Any information on how it works in Hyper-V?.. Just installed using .ISO image of CE, however, it doesn't appear to be functional. My AMP server just doesn't see it even if all the settings in CE are applied and it can ping AMP.

    Hi Egor,

    Capture1.PNG

Are you talking about AOS code 8.0.x, if YES then we have support for this code in our latest Airwave release but related to clairty support it says from 6.5.x and later.

Since AOS 8.0.x code is new and in supported device list it is not mentioned clearily whether this code supports clarity data in Airwave or not.

Enable clarity settings in AMP Setup > General>Additional AMP services page aswell.

If all the setting enabled on AOS server side but still we are not seeing clairty data in Airwave then to confirm above (clarity support is there or not) we have to enable AMON debug logs in Airwave to see whether clarity data been sent to Airwave server or not?

    Please open TAC ticket.

    Regards,

    Pavan

If my code address your query, give kudos:)

    Thank you.

Clarity is enabled in Additional AMP Services. I can see its CPU/Memory consumption under APs/Devices. Its status is IDLE.

    Airwave is 8.2.3.1.

Instant is 6.5.0.0-4.3.0.0_56428 (IAP-205). The highest I can see on HPE My Networking portal.

    According to this thread:

    https://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Network-Management/no-data-collected-by-clarity/td-p/266404

I need a higher version of Instant.

At this point I've got nothing in Clarity Dashboard:

    Clarity - no data.PNG

    Egor,

I thought you are talking about controller code. Yes, clarity supported in IAP from 6.5.1.0-4.3.1.2 and this code is supported in AMP 8.2.3.1 latest version.

I would recommend to upgrade the IAP code and also Airwave if it in older code and check the status.

    Regards,

    Pavan

    Updated to 6.5.1:

    6.5.1.PNG

However, everything is pretty the same:

    Clarity - no data v2.PNG

Also AppRF stopped working after the upgrade - no data there as well...

We have support for clarity in mentioned code, have you upgraded the Airwave code to latest aswell?

    Hey!

I´m running Airwave 8.2.3.1 and ArubaOS 6.5.1.4 at a customer and I have enabled Clarity data collection on Airwave side and AMON + all the inline stats on the controller side. I can see all the stats showing up in Airwave except DNS, anything specific that needs to be done for the DNS stats to work?

    Cheers,

    Hi christoffer,

Make sure DNS stats also enabled, have you configured APs in split tunnel mode?

When RAP configured in split tunnel mode, Any DNS query performed by client will not hit controller. Hence, the information will not be passed to Airwave server.

I would recommand to open new TAC ticket to debug this issue, to see whether DNS data been sent from contorller to Airwave or not?

    Regards,

    Pavan

    Hi!

The DNS stats are definately enabled to be sent from the controller. We have almost all VAPs in tunnel mode but no DNS stats are showing.

I will consider opening a TAC case at a later time.

    Cheers,

    Hi guys,

    Finally, it works:

    Clarity - it works.PNG

Had a chance to play with a newer IAP set up from scratch running the latest code - it appears something had been misconfigured in the original setup. Added back my original IAP-205 with wiped config - no problems so far.

    IAP firmware:

    IAP version.PNG

Let's see how it goes. Thanks for your help. Cheers.

    Hi Chris,

Were you able to fix your issue?

You have to enable DNS lookups on your controller for DNS to be seen in Clarify on Airwave.

I believe it is 'ip domain lookup' on the controller.
