Can this be done without controller ?, over console cable USB ?

The difference between the 303H and 303HR is that the HR comes as a remote AP version with a desk stand attached:

Aruba AP-303HR (EU) 802.11ac Dual 2x2:2 Radio Remote AP Bundle. Contains AP-303H (RW), desk stand (assembled, attached), RJ45 jumper cable (installed), power adapter European AC power cord (europlug)

    (taken from the data-sheet)

By just taking off the desk stand, you can convert an 303HR into an 303H. The AP itself is identical and can be used with Aruba Instant or as a controlled AP (Campus AP or Remote AP).  To get the AP into Instant mode, make sure it is not managed through Central or Activate by a previous owner, then hold the reset button (use a paperclip to reach the button behind the reset hole) while powering on the AP, when the LEDs start flashing release the reset button. The AP should come up as Instant AP after that, which may take 5-15 minutes the first time after the reset.

In the topic you mentioned InstantOn, but that is a completely different product line and it is not possible to run InstantOn on other APs than dedicated InstantOn.

    Hello Herman,
    Thanks!

Since I'm buying them second hand, what are my options, if indeed is still in central or activated ?

Paper weights?, I'm just trying to build a little lab.

The previous owner may have stopped management already, or never managed through Central or Activate. If you can bring up the AP on a network that does provide an IP address, but not internet connectivity, you could disable the communication to Aruba activate once the AP is up. Another option is to prevent the AP from communicating to Activate by blocking the dns requests for device.arubanetworks.com in your router, possible by creating a static host mapping in the router or dns server if you have that running.

So there are few options, but not having the AP managed is the easiest one, and the previous owner could do that. You might also try to setup an evaluation for Aruba Central and see if it works to add your AP to there. It may give an error if the AP is actively managed.
