    2930F switch VSF Configuration Guide.

Note 1: Make sure all switches firmware version is same.

Note 2: Maximum 4 switches can be connected in one VSF Domain, Some document says 8 members can be added I have not tried yet.

Note 3: We have updated switch firmware version is 10.6.0002

Note 4: DAC cables 10Gig is used

Note 5: VSF configuration is applicable when switch support 10G port or above.

Step 1: factory reset all switches (use erase all command).

Step 2: Do the vsf configuration in all 4 switches one-by-one.

(We have used Domain 1 for all 4 members in vsf configuration)

    Switch 1

    Configure

    vsf member 1 priority 200

    vsf member 1 link 1 49

    vsf member 1 link 2 50

    vsf enable domain 1

    show vsf link

show vsf (at this moment this switch will be commander)

    Switch 2

    Configure

    vsf member 2 priority 190

    vsf member 2 link 1 49

    vsf member 2 link 2 50

    vsf enable domain 1

    show vsf link

show vsf (at this moment this switch will be commander)

    Switch 3

    Configure

    vsf member 3 priority 180

    vsf member 3 link 1 49

    vsf member 3 link 2 50

    vsf enable domain 1

    show vsf link

show vsf (at this moment this switch will be commander)

    Switch 4

    Configure

    vsf member 4 priority 170

    vsf member 4 link 1 49

    vsf member 4 link 2 50

    vsf enable domain 1

    show vsf link

show vsf (at this moment this switch will be commander)

    Step 3: DAC Cables connection.

    1. Connect console cable in switch 1 and run show vsf command after each time DAC cables connection, to view status of vsf members successfully joined or not.
    2. Connect DAC cable from sw1_port49 to sw2_port50, after this sw2 will boot automatically. you can view by step a that sw2 is booting and after booting it will join the vsf domain. Topology will be chain. And sw2 mode will be Standby and sw1 mode will be Commander.

Commander: This is the Commander for the VSF. Control and management plane protocols run on the          Commander, which is responsible for managing the forwarding databases, synchronizing them with the Standby and controlling all line cards including that of the Standby.

Standby: Standby is a stateful backup device for the Commander and is ready to take control of the VSF virtual chassis if the Commander device crashes. This enables the VSF virtual chassis to continue its operations seamlessly in the event of a failure.

    1. Connect DAC cable from sw2_port49 to sw3_port50, after this sw3 will boot automatically. you can view by step a that sw3 is booting and after booting it will join the vsf domain. Topology will be chain. And sw3 mode will be Member.
    2. Connect DAC cable from sw3_port49 to sw4_port50, after this sw4 will boot automatically. you can view by step a that sw4 is booting and after booting it will join the vsf domain. Topology will be chain. And sw4 mode will be Member.
    3. Connect DAC cable from sw4_port49 to sw1_port50, at this point no switch will boot. When you will run show vsf in sw1, Topology will be Ring.
