From what I can tell the 8320 seems to be the only switch model that doesn't support routed sub interfaces? I tried the latest 10.13.005 and still get this error. The 8325, 8360 and 10000 all look to support it encapsulation dot1q

I know it works on the 8360.

8320 switches do not support sub-interfaces.

Thanks for confirming. And do you know if the feature will be coming? Or are there hardware limitations which means it won't be?

I encourage you to contact your local HPE Aruba Networking representative and ask for roadmap or ask for prioritization.
