Correct, Airwave license is bound to the IP address. Keep that in mind.
Note: All my Airwave migrations i use the procedure:
- Read Release Notes!
- Create VM Snapshot
- Create appliance config backup
- Turn off old Appliance
- Install and configure new appliance with same IP
- Restore backup
- Remove old server
Read de release note carefully some releases need pre-requirement or step by step upgrades.

When migrating AirWave to 8.3, you need to configure it before you can restore the backup. If you want to retain the same IP address, you need to power off old AirWave and configure the new one with the same IP address during installation of 8.3. Then you restore the backup and licenses and you are ready to go. Old AirWave can't be bring back except of you change the IP address of it. And this will invalidate the license on it. Anyhow you won't need old AirWave any more hence no reason to power it on again.

Subject: Airwave Backup inlcuding IP
Hey,
I'm planning to migrate airwave to 8.3.0.
I already gathered the backup from the old airwave on 8.2.15.2.
The new appliance is also installed.
My question is, will the new appliance use the IP from the backup and there will be a duplicate IP on the network or is the new appliance using it's preconfigured IP?
I've checked the knowledgebase and the information gives isn't clear.
Kind regards,
Daniel
