AOS-CX DCN – Updates to transceiver support on the CX product line
The objective of this post is to help users understand the latest updates to transceiver support on the CX product line.
HPE Aruba 100G QSFP28 LC FR1 2km SMF Transceiver (R9B63A)
Support for the HPE Aruba 100G QSFP28 LC FR1 2km SMF Transceiver (R9B63A) was added to the following Data Center switches:
- HPE Aruba CX 8360/8360v2/8325/10000 with 10.10.1000
- HPE Aruba CX 9300 with 10.11.1000
- Note:
- Optically splitting a 400G port to 4 x 100G FR1 ports can be achieved by using:
- HPE Aruba 400G Q-DD MPO12 eDR4 2km SMF Transceiver (R9B42A)
- HPE Aruba 100G QSFP28 LC FR1 2km SMF Transceiver (R9B63A)
Latest support for the HPE Aruba 100G QSFP28 LC FR1 2km SMF Transceiver (R9B63A) was added to:
- HPE Aruba CX 8100 with 10.12.1000
- This will be included in the upcoming version of the Aruba CX Xcvr Guide (edition 14 - coming soon)
- Notes:
- HPE Aruba CX 8100 Front to Back fan setup allows all the QSFP28 ports to use FR1.
- HPE Aruba CX 8100 Back to Front fan setup restricts R9B63A (100G FR1) to only be used in lower QSFP28 ports:
- Aruba 8100-24XF4C BF3F2AC Bdl (R9W87A) Ports 26 & 28
- Aruba 8100-24XT4XF4C BF3F2AC Bdl (R9W89A) Ports 30 & 32
- Aruba 8100-48XF4C BF3F2AC Bdl (R9W91A) Ports 50 & 52
- Aruba 8100-40XT8XF4C BF3F2AC Bdl (R9W93A) Ports 50 & 52

Enable 50G SR TriSpeed Feature
- Tri-Speed Feature for Aruba 50G SFP56 LC SR 100m MMF Transceiver (R0M48A)
- Enables support for 10G, 25G and 50G (Tri-speed)
- For use with 50G capable ports only
- Not supported for use over MMF OM1/OM2 quality fiber
Aruba 50G SFP56 LC SR 100m MMF Transceiver (R0M48A) is available on:
- HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300 (Campus Switch)
- HPE Aruba Networking CX 6400/6400V2 (Campus Switch)
- HPE Aruba Networking CX 8360/8360V2 (16Y2C/32Y4C/48Y4C) (Data Center Switch)
- 50G not supported on ports 1-4 of 32Y4C/48Y4C as those are MACsec enabled ports (limited to 25G max speed)
- Requires configuration of interface groups (groups of 4). When configured, upper 2 ports (odd-numbered) in a group are disabled and both bottom ports (even-numbered) only support 50G Speed
The following are examples of show interface outputs:
- Show Interface Transceiver / Brief
- Show Interface with 25G Forced Speed
HPE Aruba Networking CX 9300-32D Data Center Switch - Dynamic Power Management for Transceivers
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 9300-32D has an existing, constraint when running at low-line (~120V) voltage.
- All ports are rated for 14W or 20W (There are currently no 20W transceivers on CPL) maximum transceiver power, however a single power supply cannot deliver that much power to all 32 ports with low-line input voltage.
- All transceivers requiring greater than 5W are rounded up to 14W for power allocation
- To avoid power supply overload and system crash when running at low line power, there is a need to:
- Limit 8 enabled 14W transceivers based on port # when system has low-line voltage
- At bootup the lowest numbered 8 ports with those transceivers will be enabled and the rest will be disabled.
- For example, if switch is filled with 14W Tvrs, ports 1-8 will be enabled for those transceivers first
- If one of the enabled transceivers is removed the next lowest number port will then be enabled.
- If the switch has 8 high-power transceivers and the customer inserts a ninth, the new transceiver will remain disabled until another transceiver is removed or the switch (existing HW always gets prioritized)
- All other ports must be limited to 5W, which makes them compatible with older transceivers and any that don't support low-power mode.
- Note that:
- 5W must be reserved for empty ports so any inserted transceiver can be identified and will not cause an overload.
- On change in power availability, the switch will scan for additional transceivers to enable or disable
- An event log will be triggered when a transceiver is first disabled due to power limit
- Existing 'show interface' commands have been extended to include a "down reason" for disabled transceivers
- LED for disabled ports blinks amber, which is the same as for an incompatible transceiver
