Aruba CX6200F and AP-515 = Power cutoff

    Hi, we have an environment with Aruba CX6200F switches and Aruba AP-515: we get often some AP disconnections due to power cut-off.
    We already tried to change the port configuration and allocate the power by class but this seems not working. Here there is the output of a "sh power brief" for a single port and the related configuration. Maybe some other parameters are missing? Any suggestions would be very appreciated

    perhaps you can add poe priority
    "poe-priority high"
    and enable Intelligent Power Monitoring (IPM) on the AP-515

    Thanks for your help ariyap, I tried to change priority to high but reboots still happen :(
    APs are managed by different company, IPM should be enabled at the MC level

    are you sure you are not running out of PoE ?
    how many poe devices are connected to this switch?
    whats the poe power budget for this switch
    what does log -r show you?

    Yes, we still have available budget on switches (below an example). We've an average of 15 APs connected to these switches

    Logging output for a specific Cutoff event is just like this one:

    that error message indicates that the PD is asking for more power than based on the detected.
    try this on the interface " lldp dot3 poe disable"

    Thanks for your suggestion, I tried to apply this command to a single switch. From a new "sh power bri" output now I can see that only the column Allocate Act changed from lldp-dot3 to class (despite PSE reserved power is always fixed at 30W)


    I'll have a look now at the APs behaviour, it's maybe possible that lldp advertisements have priority on PoE allocate-by class command?

    Hm..

    It still look strange..

    In my 2930F/AP-515 env. it looks like this; and with only change from Class > Usage:

    Meaning, it should not state : Reserved 30W, which will confuse the power calculation in the switch.

    (the LLDP PSE Allocated Power Value, in AO-S 16.11.0005, is 25.5W. (not 30!))

    As seen about, the "reserved" / "drawn" ratios is the same.. almost..

    The datasheet for AP-515, states:

    •  Maximum (worst-case) power consumption:

    - PoE powered (802.3af, IPM enabled): 13.5W

    - PoE powered (802.3at/bt): 20.8W

    Tip:

    Setting all ports to Priority : High, gives no meaning, (there is none Low to deprioritize J)

    (Which will be the same if you set they all, to Low/High/Critical)

    And, enable IPM, and disable USB, once and for all.. you never will utilize it.

    Finally, if you still use your setting, set at least: power-over-ethernet threshold 99

    to avoid tedious alarm warnings..

    In my 6300/Ap-515 env, I have "test" various setting, none flag raised.

    All same ssid with IPM

    Looks like Alloc-by: usage, and PSE Assigned : Class 3 , gives best power allocation, (third test, from top)
