    Hello,
is there any way to display the client device name instead of IP address under the client list in Aruba controller?. The SSID is configured with PSK authentication. Under the client list only IP address is showing. Please see the image below.

    How to view the name?.

    Thanks,

In the AAA profile for that Virtual AP:

    Works for me !
I had the same Problem with Clients not showing their actual Hostname. They only did in WPA2/3-E authenticated Networks but not for WPA2/3-P.
So i set the mentioned option and there we go. New connecting Client now showing their actual Hostname.
    Thanks a lot :)

    Quick question,

is this change disruptive for production? it requires a reboot, or maintenance window?

    Thank in advance.

Not disruptive.  Client will need to reacquire ip address

    Colin,

If the controller is not the DHCP server for the devices, does DHCP snooping also need to be enabled or does an IP Helper Address also need to be assigned for the controller to be able to see the option 12 (Hostname) in the DHCP exchange?

    Thanks,

    Brad

Nothing would need to be done beyond enabling that option @Brad

    No, it doesn't require reboot.

Sorry for bringing up that subject again.

I´ve checked the box to set the username from dhcp option 12. But it´s still the IP which is shown.

We use a Win 2022 server for DHCP. I´m not sure, if that´s the problem, but DNS and DHCP are working absolutely correct on the Windows side.

I´m somewhat clueless asking for help.

    Best regards

      Andreas

After enabling that option, you need to delete the device from the user table so that it can be discovered again.  Some devices (like iPhones) no longer or never submit a hostname in the DHCP option.

    Hi cjoseph,

you mean deleting the DHCP lease on the Windows server? I did that but nothing changed.

What kind of device is it?  It needs to re-dhcp, so disconnect it from the wireless and reconnect it.

Actually different devices. A Samsung S24 mobile, a Laptop running Win 10, a Laptop running Win 11 and a Laptop running Linux.

The control has to witness the DHCP transaction.  Turn the devices off for 10 minutes and then turn them back on.  Or delete the devices from the user table on the wireless controller so that they can do a DHCP transaction again.

Tried without success. Left the devices off, deletet the dhcp lease, made sure that the controller forgot the device. Checked the option 12 box is marked.
Funny, that it worked, when the APs were IAPS. Just switched to the controller.

Are you sure you are enabling it in the right AAA profile?

I enabled it in every single AAA profile, including Default. We are using WPA2 and WPA3 Personal. Might that be the problem?

    It should work with psk.

It should. I´ve even checked if we are tunneling the traffic to the controller. We do. As said, I´m quite clueless.
