Yeah, that is a common issue with many devices. MacOS (even with all the wifi issues having lately), does the best job at recognizing you want to use 802.1x-enterprise with what EAP type. That is why we went with the XpressConnect route from Cloudpath for 802.1x provisioning. Even among same OSs, like Windows 7, sometimes it would know sometimes it didn't. Windows 8 on the other hand, seems to be pretty good at recognizing what type of auth you want to use and does not have "automatically use my Windows Logon name and password" checked by default, nor "use smart card or certificate" for authentication method, like Windows 7 did most of the time.
