    Hi All,

Hope someone can give a short answer to this. Is it possible to present the individual Hostname of an AP in an 'Instant' cluster'?.

I know its an option in a controller based network as I enabled it on an install some time back.

I just cant find an option to do it through the GUI on an Instant VC network. Reason being I would like to see the Hostname when carrying out a post install survey with Ekahau instead of going through the painfull process of matching the BSSID's to the correct AP.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You can do this from CLI on IAP.

Under wlan ssid profile you can configure "advertise-ap-name"

    Many Thanks Ayman

I did wonder if it was CLI and not GUI related. I will give this a go today.

    Hi Ayman,

Is this feature also available in ArubaOS 8.x for CAPs?

    Thanks!

Thank you, William.  I can see this option in the ssid-profile.  Unfortunately, that would require making a regional change as this config comes from further up the node-hierarchy.  I suppose we could create a temp wlan ssid-profile for the onsite survey.  Either way, I wanted to follow up to confirm this.  I keep trying to give you kudos but every time I try I have to log in and get taken out of the discussion.

Yes you can create a temp ssid-profile for this.

In my template I always include this command to make sure the AP name is always broadcasted.

If you create a temp profile you need to make make changes like a nieuwe Virtual AP profile. The easiest way is to enable the ap-name in the existing profile. Maybe schedule this outside off business hours if you want to be careful.

I'm assuming there's a little bit of overhead when displaying AP hostnames. Do you know if it would be very service impacting in a somewhat dense deployment?

The additional overhead for adding AP names to the beacons is so minimal (a few bytes) that the benefit of having AP names in the beacons for troubleshooting and surveys is worth it. I'd also be much more worried about other tuning other things in a dense deployment. Start with adjusting minimum rates and optimizing broadcast and multicast traffic.
