    Hi,

We Trackerwave RTLS based company, we have RTLS platform and BLE products. One of our customer using "Aruba AP 315 " and we understood that it has BLE observer support(read beacon and send to cloud).

we usually use our BLE observer/Gateway to read asset tag beacons to perform indoor tracking. As our customer is already using "Aruba AP 315 ", does Aruba  router has option to configure BLE beacon data end point.?
If so we could change end point address in router to push BLE beacon data to our Trackerwave RTLS platform for indoor tracking use case.
What is the protocol used by Aruba router to push BLE beacon data?  like https/mqtt/tcp?

    Thanks,
    Bala

    Hi Bala,

Yes, Aruba supports an interface to forward BLE beacon data to a 3rd party endpoints but you have to take a closer look into the details of what is available depending on the Aruba SW version being used. Especially which BLE data can be forwarded currently depends somehow if the BLE vendor of the tags is supported by Aruba. Because the this information is a little bit distributed within the Aruba official documentation I tried to dense it into a single guide here:

IoT-Utilities - Aruba IoT Configuration Guide

If you are interested in leveraging the Aruba interface with your RTLS solution and developing an integration I would recommend you to join the Aruba Technology Partner program that is free of charge but would provide you support in regards to development and would allow you to promote it as a supported solutions with Aruba.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply it helps.

After site visit, we come to know customer is using "Aruba controller 7205" to manage APs.

we followed https://community.arubanetworks.com/browse/articles/blogviewer?blogkey=9db04a8e-d8cb-4a63-bbe7-e90f069f9880 thread to setup the RTLS server settings in controller.

But we don't see any data coming to our RTLS server. RTLS Config changes we did is attached for your reference.

Please lets us know attached Config changes is fine? or do we need to enable any other settings in controller to push RTLS data to our server.?

    Thanks,

    Bala

    Hi,

Does AP 315(not IAP 315) using Controller 7205 support BLE scanning feature?

After changing RTLS end point to local network server, we are able to see "AR_AP_NOTIFICATION" messages from all APs. We send ACK message as per attahced link (https://github.com/lukaskaplan/aruba-rtls/blob/master/rtls_server.php)(https://community.arubanetworks.com/aruba/attachments/aruba/unified-wired-wireless-access/23715/1/RTLS_integrationv6.docx) , but still we did not get any RTLS payload from APs.

    Sample AR_AP_NOTIFICATIONmessage:

    00150ff201000000808db7c728380000ecace544048077e30ba2e25ed38cdce123e79dfe

We see only "Beaconing" BLE mode in mobility controller. After enabling "Beaconing" in mobility controller, APs are emitting beacons. But we don't see BLE RTLS data(we are looking for our beacon RSSI,UUID) from APs. Our asset Tag(ibeacon) is physically  placed next to AP.

    Please help us.

Yes, all Aruba controllers with the right SW version support the BLE "scanning".

The RTLS example you found is for Wi-Fi RTLS, not BLE.

You can find here example configurations for using the Aruba IoT interface to receive BLE scanning data.

    Hi Jens Fluegel,

    Thanks for your reply.

I read the link you shared and understood that data is pushed through the websocket and encoded in protobuf format.

Our customer has Aruba 8.3 OS in there controller(7205).

Does Aruba 8.3 OS has support for websocket based BLE telemetry data? or do we need to upgrade Controller OS?

    Thanks,
    Bala

That generic IoT interface has been added/dramatically improved in ArubaOS 8.7. So please try to upgrade to 8.7 or newer.
