    Hello,

On a HP 10508-V LPU with 1XLS5408 Processor, an extension board is racked in slot 6 (HP A10500 8 port 10 Gbe SFP + EA - LSU1TGS8EA0, Release version: HP 10508-V-1209L19).

This board is issueing an error on the terminal monitor :

    DRVDB/2/LOG Info:  chassis=2 slot=6;

    _soc_xgs3_mem_dma: EXT_L2_ENTRY_TCAM.esm0 failed (NAK)

I can't find any relevant information about this error on the Internet. I guess this is a memory slot in this board which is non responding.. however i have no real clue on what this error means.

    Can you help ?

    Thanks,

    JB

I have to ask for a confirmation, but it should be a comware 5, 5.20.105 feat 1209L19.

Unfortunately, i cannot easily upgrade the firmware.

Thanks for your attention and help

    Hello @JBPhilippin.,

The error message is generated by a parity error in the ASIC. It is basically related to several factors such as, the external environment, ASIC manufacturing and/or forwarding condition. This is also a self-correcting event. Thus the message being more for information rather than an indication of an actual problem. Meaning that a parity condition was observed and as it was observed, the condition was also corrected.

However, when the messages are continually being reported, that is would be an indication of an issue that need some attention. Agreed with  @-Alex-  & @Ivan_B  that support intervention is required.
It might be a suggested action from support to RMA the line cards.

    Thanks!

    Hello  JBPhilippin,

This message type could be more informative and could be self-correcting event especially if there are no other sympthoms. However if you see this error frequently in your log I would suggest that you open a case for the issue in order to find out if the module needs replacement.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for your help and attention.

Could you explain the error ?

As far as i understand it, it concerns a memory slot on the slot 6 board which could be unaccessible ?

    What does EXT_L2_ENTRY_TCAM.esm0 mean ?

    Hi @JBPhilippin !

"_soc_xgs3_mem_dma: EXT_L2_ENTRY_TCAM.esm0 failed (NAK)" means System on Chip (SoC) type XGS3 (Broadcom StrataXGS series, in particular Tomahawk3) attempted memory (mem) access using direct memory access (DMA) in order to retrieve an Ethernet Layer 2 entry (MAC address) from the ternary content-addressable memory (TCAM). The request failed (NAK, not acknowledged).

This happens from time to time because of rare memory errors, most of which are self-correcting, but if you see a lot of such messages, I agree with @-Alex- , contact HPE TAC for further investigation.
