We have an HP5130 switch and tried to login to the web interface with:

    Username: admin

    Password: as previously setup

Verify code: as per that on the page

This would not allow us to login.

We have access via a serial connection and the below commands were run:

1/ system-view   - to change to system view.

2/ local-user admin  - I believe to switch to that user.

3/ password simple newpassword   - to set the new password as a plain text password.

4/ service-type https - to specify the service type

    5/ authorization-attribute user-role network-operator

This does not appear to change the password, we had to follow this to create a new user, which allows us to login to the web interface as required.

I have not been able to find after much searching how to change the password for the user 'admin'.

If you are able to advise that would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Daniel

    Strange ... it's a setup right.

Does both HTTP and HTTPS access have the same problem ?

    Hi johnk3r,

    Thanks for your continued help.

Yes, both http and https have the issue.

Before I posted in the first place to the forum I created another user so I could login again via the web interface by the method I described in my opening message and I can then see how to change the password for the user 'admin' in the web interface, if I do this will it cause the switch to reboot to apply the change?

    Many thanks

    Daniel

    Hello.

No, it is not necessary to reboot the switch after a configuration.

    Hi johnk3r,

I tried yesterday to update the password for the user 'admin' via the web interface (logging in using the user 'admin2'). Initially it advised this was not allowed because of the role, I updated it so the user admin2 is now:

    Device management user admin2:
    State: Active
    Service type: HTTPS
    User group: system
    Bind attributes:
    Authorization attributes:
    Work directory: flash:
    User role list: network-admin, network-operator

I logged back in to the web interface as admin2 and navigated:

Device (left hand menu) > Administrator > Administrator (on the next page) > selected admin (ticked it) and then click on 'edit' at the bottom.

Input the new password, 10 characters or more as minimum password length is set, clicked 'Apply' and it reports on that page in red 'operation failed'.

    Many thanks

    Daniel

    Hi johnk3r,

    Issue resolved by:

1/ Logging in with the additional user via the web interface that I created on the cli.

    2/ Deleting user 'admin'

3/ It would not allow me to re-add that user via the web interface, I had to do this as per my first post via the cli.

I learnt if the user requires an additional role simply just repeat the same line you used to give them the first role and change it to what you need it to be.

4/ First login after creation it will prompt you to change the password (I used 12 characters as the 10 character minimum length is enabled).

I am now able to login as required.

Thank you for your help and I hope this helps somebody else.

    Thanks

    Daniel

    Hello

To change the password for the admin user, it should be like you described.

Maybe try to change the authorization-attribute or the service type.

    Kind regards
