HP A5800 JC100A temperature

    Dear All,

     

    I would like to ask about the given below pic. what does it mean of 44 C Temperature. this temperature of what. My server room temperature is 19 C , even switch is performing well. then why it is showing 44 C Temperature. Please help ...

    The switch has a psu and a couple of system cpus along with fpga/asics which all will generate heat when being used (thats why the unit have heatsinks and noisy fans).

     

    Hard to tell from your pic but if you login you can run:

     

    > display environment

     

    which will display something like:

     

    Slot 1
    System temperature information (degree centigrade):
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Sensor Temperature LowerLimit WarningLimit AlarmLimit ShutdownLimit
    hotspot 1 45 10 80 87 NA

     

    My interpretation is that this temp is the highest available within your unit (in my case its +45C where the surroundings are about +20C).

     

    In the above unit (HP 5820X-24XG-SFP+) you can see that the recommended maxtemp is +80C. So as long as the tempsensor reports below +80C everything is fine. However you want usually to have a margin to recommended maxtemp.

    When I first setup 5800s, I also noticed the high temperature and I also wondered if it was normal.

    Good question.

     

    What is "normal"? I don't have a clear answer.

     

    I can however give you some examples.

    1:

    HP7510 (MPU  LSQ1SRP2XB in slot 5, and LSQ1GP48SC in all linecard slots) Running Comware 5.20.105, R6708P08

    In a badly cooled room . Room temperature approx 32C

    here slot 5 and 12 are "the same" (the MPU) and it must have 2 different sensors. The other boards (all the same) vary from 47C to 41C which is either due to bad airflow, badly calibrated sensors, or different load on the boards, but you get the generel idea.

     

    2:

    In a better cooled room . room temperature approx 24C

    The software patchlevel in 1: and 2: differs, but otherwise the units are the same - and have approximately the same load.

     

    On my comware 7 devices the limits are diffent:

     

    HP-5130-24 running  Comware 7.1.045, R3106

    in an office environment (guessing 24C or something)

    so, different limits of course dependig on the ASICs and CPUs on the diffenrent boards.

    so according to this temperature table . 47C consider as a normal and 80C will be consider as a over heated.

    Yeah and at +70C its time to take actions to fix the heat issue.

     

    So having +47C is "normal".
