    Hello,

we have this product as wireless controller in our network:

    HP Series Wireless LAN
    HPE 850 Unified Wired-WLAN Appliance
    JG722A
    HP 850
    Software version: Release 2607P61
    Hardware version: Ver.A
    Bootrom Version: 1.13

Access points used with this controller are: MSM460-WW
We need to add some APs for redundancy.
APs need to be added to the existing controller and should be integrated in network with older APs for roaming purposes and full coverage.
Which models should we consider to buy?

the MSM line of products has been end of sale for some years now.

I suggest planning to migrate to the Aruba range of APs.

    Thanks for your answer.

We suggested addding some APs in critical spaces and to buy some APs for redundancy. We need to know which models we can use with existing configuration, controller and APs?

Aruba APs will not work with MSM controllers. so you need to ensure that one site is Aruba and the other non-Aruba APs.

Also dont mix them up or you'll have lots of client issues.

MSM460 is an 11n AP, these day you can buy 11ax APs like AP-505 or AP-515 for the full range see here

    Thanks,

    as I can guess:

    1) Our HP 850 Unified Wired-WLAN Appliance is a MSM controller and will not work with newer Aruba APs?

    2) We need to buy newer Aruba APs and create a new site of them?

    3) Roaming between old HP and new Aruba site will not work?

    4) Moving between sites would need to reconnect from HP SSID to Aruba SSID?

the answer to most of your questions is "yes".

Classic dot1x roaming between different vendor APs will not work in the true meaning of dot1x fast roaming.

however if you make the SSIDs the same, when a user moves from say HP AP to Aruba AP, they will go through full dot1x authentication.

You can buy old MSM APs on second hand market. The problem you will encounter is, that you can't buy controller licenses any more for these APs. The best way would be to replace the whole WiFi environment with new APs. You can use Instant or Aruba Central or controller based solution. MSMs are unfortunately obsolete.

    Best, Gorazd
