    Good morning.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    The message:

HPE iMC says "Duplicate devices are found. The IP addresses are "10.1.2.255,10.1.2.54", which are assigned to the same device"

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a network with 130 switches (controlled on a dedicated vlan), and since using Aruba Instant On 1930 switches, alarms started indicating that there is a switch with a duplicate IP in the switch network.

The problem appears with all Aruba Instant On 1930 switches (12 units)

Obviously, the IP address is unique and not duplicated. The devices are in the correct vlan.

The problem they generate is that the broadcast ip (x.x.x.255) takes the identity of 1 switch with the duplicate IP problem.

I think the problem originates from a port taking the IP "169.254.0.1/255.255.255.0" "User Definet Port 1"  recognized as APIPA. I can't configure that IP/interface.

I did many tests without good results.

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you very much in advance

Hi Egonzauy, ,please use this feature to exclude the duplicate IP address. It can be found in: System > Resources > IP Conflict Management

    Hello,

As Paola showed, you can simply customize IMC to ignore these 'duplicate' IP addresses.

Just to mention though - it's fundamentally not an issue in IMC. IMC is simply detecting duplicate IP addresses and providing alarming. For some reason the 1930 switches in particular show some odd behavior in terms of IP Address Table output via SNMP. They are listing a 169.254.0.1 address in the table, even though it was not configured.
For example MIB Walk of the ipAddrTable on 1930 in my lab:

You could open a support case for 1930 series to see if this can be resolved or clarify why it does this.

    @pbit, @jguse
Thank you very much for the help.

I'm going to ignore duplicate ips in IMC.

I thought there might be another solution.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to open a case for 1930 series.

    Hi Enrique,
the switch is working as designed,  IMC does not recognise reserved IP addresses, you have to enter them manually.

    169.254.0.1 Reserved IP Address

IP Address (English) 🔍 remove preview
    169.254.0.1 Reserved IP Address
169.254.0.1 is a reserved IP address reserved by the IP address management agency and not assigned as a public or private IP. The reserved IP is generally used

    Thanks Paola for the recommendation.

A few months ago I added that IP to the "IP Conflict Detection" list but I didn't see the results and it kept reporting the error.
I have now "disabled" the duplicate IP check.
And I'm going to open a support case with the intention of helping the community.

    Hi Enrique,

I had the same issue and was looking at this tread last month but didn't want to ignore...

what i found out today is that previously we change the switch IP but didn't delete the old IP from monitoring

try to search on IMC for these IP's10.1.2.255,10.1.2.54 and see if you have them both as monitored devices.
