Hi All,
Yesterday i completed my first installation of the new Aruba Instant software that supports the 64 IAP's in a single cluster.
I thought i would share my experience as there is a very specific sequence you will need to follow if you are doing this to ensure a smooth installation.
This particular site used 55 IAP-105's and most of these came out of the factory with 5.0.3.3.-1.0.0.1 installed so they were limited to the normal 16 IAP's.
When all of the IAP's were powered up, approx 19 of them showed up on the virtual controller. At this point i completed the upgrade to 6.1.3.1-3001 but found that when the IAP's rebooted, they reset and came back up on 5.0.3.3..
What i think happened is that multiple clusters formed on the network and when the IAP's were rebooting from the firmware update, they connected to one of the other masters that were on 5.0.3.3 and downgrading again.
This seemed to happen in a cycle so there was no way i could proceed other than to disconnect / power down all but one of the IAP's.
I then upgraded the single IAP to 6.1.3.1 and then connected the other back up a few at a time to ensure only one master existed and only a single VC was in operation. Once this was completed with all the IAP's then everything was fine.
So my advice to anybody planning on rolling out more than 16 IAP's:
1) Power up and configure one IAP only
2) Perform upgrade to 6.1.3.1
3) Power up the remaining IAP's
4) Go home earlier than i did!
