I have VCX four digit dialing going through a VPN on a TippingPoint X5 on a VCX 7.1.14. We're having sound quality issues with site to site calls. The only vcx is at the main site, and it's also the only site with a VLAN. At a remote site with with two phones, a single pc, and an analog v7111 gateway, if I connect through that sites VPN and run a ping to the VCX while making a softphone call, the call starts dropping out.

Should I get into bandwidth limiting through the VPN on the X5? I don't know what else to try.

    Hi,

I suggest that you look into bandwidth limiting on that link as well as ensuring that the voice traffic between the phones is prioritized everywhere. You can also see if changing codecs makes a difference. Use Feature Code 342 to prefer G.729 before placing a call to the other site and see if it sounds better or worse.

    John,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Does VCX 7.x support G.729?

    Hi,

You're welcome. Yes, VCX 7.x supports both G.711 and G.729 audio codecs.
