- Yes. MC is the one that work with APs and do all the hard work. MM is only for managing MCs and some additional high level functions. You really want to have MM to manage MCs.
- Yes. All MCs in the cluster are active and share the load.
- Yes. All configurations are stored on MM.
- No. You can manage wireless network from Airwave.
- Depend on link you have between sites. If you have L2 link with short delays, then you can go with L2 cluster and full redundancy. If you need to have L3 link between sites, then it would be the best to have cluster on each site.
I would highly suggest that you take a look to Airheads Broadcasting Channel. Here are videos that will help you answer your questions in more details.
Also you can check Reference Design Guides for even more details and examples.

Hi,
I would like to ask the following,
- Is it mandatory to have MC if I plan to deploy an MM?
- I read about MC clustering using MM, is this clustering combining 2 or 3 MCs to have combined throughput and performance? Is this different from the active/standby MC?
- If I deploy MM, all configuration will now be in MM for the wireless?
- Is the Airwave for monitoring and analytics only?
- If I have two sites and I deploy 2x MC in site A and 1x MC in site B and configured MC clustering using MM, will the APs in site B will associate to the MC in site B?
Thank you
