You will have to update both MM's individually.
Yes, you should be able to access the GUI or SSH of the backup at anytime.
If it is serving as the backup, the session should start with a banner telling you that configuration is limited.

We have an active and backup mobility master, and I am having trouble accessing the backup mobility master from the active MM. My question is if I upgrade the AOS from 8.7.1.7 to 8.10.0.5 on the active MM, do I also need to manually upgrade the backup MM, or will it be done automatically when MM1 is upgraded?
My second question is whether it is possible to access the backup MM. Thank you for your assistance.
