We have been with Aruba for 10 great years. What "Network analytics and monitoring" platform should we use to monitor our wireless network. We cannot use Airwave since we have 10 controllers in our cluster.We have been using the controllers as our eye and ears for years but now with more than 6000 APs and growing, the wireless network has become more vital to production. We would like to to be more proactive with wireless network issues. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Skair, I think the restriction isn't the number of controllers, but the number of APs that AW can monitor (4000). I recently went through a process of reconfiguring our infrastructure to facilitate appropriate monitoring with AW.
We struggled for a while after first deployment of the Aruba infrastructure, but have it sorted now. We have 10 controllers, 8200 APs, and our footprint ended-up dividing pretty conveniently into 3 distinct areas, even though it's all basically the same campus. The work involved moving controllers between clusters, and moving all the APs into relevant groups.We use LMS IP on the AP groups to direct areas of APs to the relevant cluster, and AMON config to direct the controllers to the relevant AW server. We then use Glass as the aggregator for the 3 AW servers.To my mind the only, minor, PITA with this is that the managed network level config has to have multiples of AP group config (but the config was more of a mess before this work) - as each AP group needs to exist on each cluster (for our setup). But the reality is that this isn't that much of a PITA once it's set up and working.Then when we deploy new APs we know what cluster they're going to be on (area) and so what group they have to be in (cluster) and use the whitelist-db cli command to add them prior to physical deployment.It's somewhat cumbersome compared to our old Cisco Prime environment, but now the work is largely complete, it's perfectly workable - Glass is the key to it.
