    Dear Experts,

One of our prospect is planning to deploy approx 20 APs in their building. Since its one building there should be 1 AP group ideally. Now they want to broadcast Open SSID on some locations only like conference room, lobby Access point etc. I know there wont be roaming in such a case for this SSID but for now we have to respond on their compliance. So will it be doable using only 1 AP group or do i need to bring AP of these locations in a different AP group?

Would recommend another AP group for easier administration.  Depending on AOS version and implementation, a separate group may be required.

Ok and will there be any roaming issues for common ssid between apgroup1 and apgroup2?

Would be helpful if you mentioned what version of AOS you are looking at.

Assuming all configuration for the SSID is the same in both groups, roaming should work without issue.

    Oh sorry,

    It will be 8.11.

Just curious why were you asking for Aos version?

Because "Group" is also a construct in Central and I'd expect this question for an AOS 10 deployment rather than AOS 8.  And AOS 10 has restrictions on what kind of WLAN can be created at the AP level rather than the group.

AOS 8, create multiple groups, assign the single common VAP to all groups, create the one-off VAP and assign to the group(s) handling the special locations.  No issues.

In certain versions it is possible to use something called AP zones (which are different that RF zones) to do this.  It can be a bit confusing for someone looking at it after the fact, as zones are not always surfaced well in the UI.  In general I think it is best to avoid AP zones unless your groups are very large.
