- There also could be contention: Wireless is a shared mechanism and sometimes traffic does not go through the first time. Combine that with scanning when changing access points, and there could be a drop or two.
- Pings are never retried, so if it is missed, there is nothing further up in the application layer to retry a ping that is missed; it is just missed
