ProCurve 1810G-24 (J9450A) can't resolve hostname

    I have a 3com siwtch (main switch) and uplink to a HP ProCurve 1810G-24 (J9450A) port 23 (copper).

     

    I have a weird problem where the any computer connected to the HP ProCurve 1810G-24 (J9450A) can not ping using hostname but able to ping using IP address.  When I change the uplink from port 23 to port 1 everthing is running fine. It can ping using hostname and IP address.

     

    As my understanding there is no specific port for uplink in this switch correct me if I am wrong. Any port can be use as uplink. Is it a hardware bug or hardware mulfunction?

    Switches don't get involved in DNS, so if DNS resolution is failing, then either the PC is configured with an incorrect DNS server or the DNS request is not being answered.
