Routed Port On AOS-S

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some help configuring a routed port on switches running AOS-S. As far as I know, there is no support for configuring actual routed interfaces on switches running AOS-S. By routed interface, I mean a port equivalent to a router port, with no VLAN involved. This would be the equivalent of using the "no switchport" command on a Cisco switch. This feature is supported on switches running AOS-CX, but as far as I know, the lowest model capable of running this OS is the 6300 series. Am I wrong here? If that's the case, my only option is to create a VLAN/SVI, assign an IP address, and add a port to that VLAN to simulate a routed port on AOS-S, right? FYI, buying other hardware is not an option.

I'm asking because I'm configuring intersite connections (campus network) and I want to configure L3 interfaces (no L2, no trunking) to route between sites. Has anyone set up point-to-point links using VLAN/SVIs to route? Are there any cons compared to using a routed port?

AOS-S switches do not support routed-port configurations. AOS-CX switches support them from the CX 6200 series onwards. You can use the Aruba Switch Feature Navigator to check for feature availability and search for ROP (Routed Only Port) mode under the L3 feature section.

You can easily connect a Switch Virtual Interface (SVI) to a Routed Only Port (ROP), see picture.
