Splitting WLC's

I have two WLC's a the moment that are setup for Master/secondary.

i want to split these apart and make them two separate Maser WLC's and i will put them on different vlans.  One entity will access/manage/use one and a second entity will access/manage/use the second.

I know i can split the two license that i have but how do i go about breaking the master/secondary bond of the two WLC's to separate them.  The last time i changed the secondary to "master" it completely shutdown the existing master controller and all hell broke loose.

What on the secondary controller must be changed as to get it to be recognized as a master WLC?  I will be running the two WLC's on separate VLANS so i assume the management vlan and changing it from secondary to master but what else and/or what needs to change on the current Master WLC to get it to "let it go"?

i prefer not to reset the current secondary WLC to factory default and start over if at all possible......but will if that's what needs to happen.

    Thank you in advance
