Yes to both questions, but it may be best to test/prepare this with your Aruba partner and/or Aruba Support in order to make that change smooth.
Be advised that running the 9004 as ArubaOS 8.x gateway will probably require licenses, where when running from Central in SD-Branch mode it uses subscriptions from Central and the local licenses are no longer needed. Also, at this point in time it may be good for new SD-Branch deployments to deploy the gateway in AOS-10 mode. Your local Aruba partner or local Aruba SE should be able to assist you with making the best decision on more information that we have here on the forum.

Subject: Using Gateway/Controller as a router until SD-Branch
Hello,
Couple of questions about Aruba's controllers and sd-branch. Thank you in advance.
1. Can i use Aruba 9004 Gateway as a router for a branch which only have one mpls uplink to a head office data center.
2. Can i change the mode of the aruba gateway from controller/gateway mode to a Sd-branch gateway mode after deploying aruba central at the data center end.
I am only exploring this solution until i get the funds to deploy aruba central and deploy aruba sd-wan sd-branch solution.
