    Hi,

we have HP 5120 EI switches configured for Alcatel VoIP phones. Anyone with the same setup? I want to compare the configurations in use on the field:

voice vlan mac-address 0080-9f00-0000 mask ffff-ff00-0000 description Alcatel phone

    #

    vlan 9

    name VoIP

    #

    vlan 10

    name Client

    #

    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/10

    port link-type hybrid

    undo port hybrid vlan 1

    port hybrid vlan 10 untagged

    port hybrid pvid vlan 10

    voice vlan qos trust

    voice vlan 9 enable

    loopback-detection enable

    loopback-detection action shutdown

    poe enable

    stp edged-port enable

The DHCP scope for VLAN 9 is also configured on the HP 5120 EI switch:

    dhcp server ip-pool dhcp_vlan9 extended
     network ip range 10.9.10.10 10.9.10.250
     network mask 255.255.255.0
     next-server 10.11.11.1
     gateway-list 10.9.10.254

Sometimes the Alcatel phones have to be rebooted MANY times, before they are ready. This behaviour is strange...

    Regards, Leonardo

    Hi Leanordo

I would try 3 things one by one

we have an installation with 5500's working with Alcatel phones. I have checked our general setup config and these seemed to be different to me.

1-under interfaces that are connected to phones disable auto voice vlan

2- system view disable voice vlan security

3- use trunk ports at the interfaces instead of hybrid ports.

    regards

    Hi mertdemi,

what you are proposing is a manual voice configuration. As far as I know you cannot connect a PC behind the phone in such an environment. But we use this kind of connection, therefore we need the auto-voice-vlan configuration.

    Hi

Could you give a hand for H3C configuration !!

Hmm... HP Comware = H3C, so the config should be the same! :-)

    Hi.

It seems to me that you are missing one setting in this interface:

    port hybrid vlan 9 tagged

Since you don't have the permission to the voice VLAN tagged on the interface, the phone wouldn't work properly.

And more: in all my implementations I've been using the hybrid port link-type with success. This settings can be increased with the tips mentioned by our buddy above.

    Hi Fred_Mancen_1,

I tried the command, but only got an error message:

    [SWITCH-GigabitEthernet1/0/10]port hybrid vlan 9 tagged
In auto voice VLAN mode, a Trunk or Hybrid port can not be added to or be deleted from voice VLAN manually when voice VLAN is enabled on it.

The phones are working with the configuration I posted. We just have strange behaviours here and there (as I stated before). I'm trying to isolate them and trying to find out if the phones or the switch config is the problem.

    Regards, Leonardo

    Hi LS1971

To tag the Voice vlan, you'll need to undo the voice vlan first.  That should allow you to tag it.

If used the below port config with an ip phone and was able the use the passthrough port for a pc if you need to try another config.

    interface GigabitEthernet#/#/##
    port link-type hybrid
    undo port hybrid vlan 1
    port hybrid vlan 40 tagged
    port hybrid vlan 18 untagged
    port hybrid pvid vlan 18
    undo voice vlan mode auto
    voice vlan 40 enable
    poe enable
    stp edged-port enable
    #
    return

    Hi Lrod78,

    Hi Lrod78

how do you configure your IP phones? Do you manually configure the VLAN-ID on them? We want to be able to attach the IP phones to the network out-of-the-box without having to configure anything on them.

The only thing they are set for is to pick up an address via DHCP.  There's nothing else really done.

Are they still not grabbing an IP from the correct VLAN?

    Hi Leonardo,

I have the same issue with Alcatel IP Phone. Did you solve this issue? Can you share your config?

    Thanks.

    Regards.

    Hi mekand,

here's what the configuration of one of our 5120-EI switch looks like.

    VoIP config:

voice vlan mac-address 0080-9f00-0000 mask ffff-ff00-0000 description Alcatel phone
    #
    vlan 69
     name VoIP
     quit
    #
    vlan 71
     name Client
     quit
    #
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
     port link-type hybrid
     undo port hybrid vlan 1
     port hybrid vlan 71 untagged
     port hybrid pvid vlan 71
     voice vlan qos trust
     voice vlan 69 enable
     undo enable snmp trap updown
     undo enable log updown
     loopback-detection enable
     loopback-detection control enable
     loopback-detection per-vlan enable
     loopback-detection action shutdown
     poe enable
     stp edged-port enable
     lldp voice-vlan 69
     quit
    #

    DHCP config:

    dhcp server ip-pool dhcpvlan69 extended
     network ip range 10.11.12.100 10.11.12.200
     network mask 255.255.255.0
     next-server 10.18.19.1
     gateway-list 10.11.12.254
     quit
    #
    interface Vlan-interface69
     description VLAN69
     ip address 10.11.12.253 255.255.255.0
     dhcp server apply ip-pool dhcpvlan69
     quit
    #

Asuming a 10.11.12.0/24 VoIP-subnet and the Alcatel telephone system's IP being 10.18.19.1. Hope this helps. :-)

    Regards, Leonardo
