A colleague sent me this great reading list created by Cristian Lumezanu from NEC Labs

    http://www.nec-labs.com/~lume/sdn-reading-list.html

Another great resource is the SDN Journey featuring Jim Metzler, sponsored by HP on SDN Central

What other resources have you found that have helped you understand Software Defined Networking?

    Andy.

There are a number of YouTube videos that I have found to be very helpful in understanding not only the core ideas behind SDN but also it's history. In particular the following videos featuring Proj. Scott Shenker and Martin Casado, two of the pioneers of SDN:

Stanford Seminar - Software-Defined Networking at the Crossroads:

An attempt to motivate and clarify Software-Defined Networking (SDN)

Origins and Evolution of OpenFlow/SDN - Martin Casado

I'm not sure if you can access closed Coursera.org classes.

If so, check out SDN course:

    https://class.coursera.org/sdn-001/wiki/view?page=syllabus

It's a little bit high level, but provides good introduction to the SDN technology.
