CPPM fails to join to cluster : Node is already registered in the cluster

Jul 14, 2014 10:21 AM

Question : I am unable to join CPPM to my cluster

Environment Information : This applies to all versions of CPPM

Symptoms :

While trying to join CPPM to cluster, I see the below error.

Adding node as subscriber to 10.30.156.120's cluster...
Enter Publisher Password:
Setting up local machine as a subscriber to 10.30.156.120
INFO - Local checks before adding subscriber passed
ERROR - 10.30.156.120: - Adding subscriber with management IP=10.30.156.119 failed.
Node is already registered in the cluster with management IP=10.30.156.120

ERROR - 10.30.156.120: - Adding subscriber node entry failed. Host=cppm6.3 Manageme
nt IP=10.30.156.119

ERROR - Adding entry to publisher failed
ERROR - Check that publisher is accessible and the password is correct
ERROR - Setting up subscriber failed
Make subscriber failed

Cause : If we clone the VM instance on ESX and provision the cloned instance as  new CPPM server, it copies the UUID as well, thus the cloned and original Clearpass VM both have the same UUID and we cannot  join the nodes to the same cluster.
