How to enable ClearPass Guest captive portal access over HTTP only

Oct 20, 2015 05:25 AM

Q:

If a network admin is testing captive portal setup in lab (without HTTPS certificate installed on the CPPM) and wants to access the page over HTTP only, then how to achieve it?

A:

Apart from configuring the captive portal URL (with HTTP) on the controller/switch, we need to modify a setting on ClearPass Guest as well (mentioned in screenshot below). By default any HTTP captive portal access request is redirected to use HTTPS instead.

If one does not have a HTTPS certificate installed on ClearPass (from a well known CA) then setting the captive portal over HTTPS would cause cert warnings. In order to avoid the cert warning we need to uncheck the "Security" box mentioned above.
