Question: Why ClearPass Policy Manager 6.3.x is throwing the error "Server is throwing "java null pointer exception error" when we login with customized admin privilege, which was working on CP 6.2?
Environment Information: Applicable from ClearPass version 6.3.x
Symptoms: If you have the below permission added in custom admin privilege to allow access to Guest User Repository then the server will throw the "java null pointer exception error" when you login with same privilege. Because access to Guest User Repository had been removed from ClearPass Policy Manager 6.3.x
<AdminTask taskid="con.id.gu"> <AdminTaskAction type="RWD"/></AdminTask> Resolution: If you are facing this issue after upgrading the server to CP 6.3.x from any previous versions like CP 6.2, 6.1, etc., then export the custom admin privilege from the server and edit the file using any text editor to remove the above tags. After removing the above tags, just save the file with same format (.xml) and import it back on the server.
Admin Privilege can be exported/imported by navigating to Administration >> Users and Privileges >> Admin Privileges.
