Dashboard - Infrastructure - Controller - Health Status Classification

Aug 03, 2020 11:26 AM

Q:

What does the Health Status Classification (Good, Fair, Poor and Unknown) under Dashboard - Infrastructure - Controller actually mean?

A:

The Dashboard tab in controller WebUI provides enhanced visibility into your network to view and monitor various information of the devices in the network. Starting with AOS 8.4.0.0, the dashboard contains various sub-categories to monitor various information under the five categories listed below.

  1. Overview
  2. Infrastructure
  3. Traffic Analysis
  4. Security
  5. Services

Under each sub-category, we can monitor the information related to the Client's health, Wireless LAN, Usage, Radios, Controller health, etc.

Similarly, the infrastructure tab provides a summary of Controllers, Access Devices, WAN, and Clusters. Refer to the below Screenshot of the infrastructure page.

When we navigate to "Dashboard - Infrastructure" under Managed Network hierarchy, we have an option to group the controllers based on "Status or Health"

We can monitor the controller's health and the same will be classified under 4 categories as listed below.

  1. Good -         Denoted in color GREEN
  2. Fair    -         Denoted in color AMBER/ORANGE
  3. Poor  -         Denoted in color RED
  4. Unknown    Denoted in color GRAY

Each health status denotes a significant value and calculated and categorized based on the below parameters.

1. Health Status GOOD:

The health status is displayed as Good if APs and WAN uplinks are up:

2. Health Status Fair:

The health status is displayed as Fair when any one of the following scenarios is observed:

  • at least one of its uplinks has a fair health score
  • 1% or more (less than 10%) of the APs are Down

3. Health Status Poor:

The health status is displayed as Poor when any one of the following scenarios is observed:

  • the controller itself is down.
  • at least one of its uplinks has a poor health score.
  • 10% or more of the APs are Down.

4. Health Status Unknown:

The health status is displayed as unknown when the health status of the controller cannot be identified as good, fair, or poor.
