Q:
Why VIA client is able to access its local default gateway even when its configured for tunnel mode?
Network setup: VIA client - Router/Switch - Controller. VIA client gets IP address from DHCP server.
In most cases, VIA would be used in home network were user does not configure static IP address for their device and it gets IP address from DHCP server. Router would act as the Default gateway, DHCP server and DNS server. So, it is required for client to renew its IP address. If the client is unable to renew its IP address, then it will lose its network reachability.
Hence, VIA application does not delete the route to reach default gateway locally so that the client can renew its IP address. This is by design. As we are not pushing ACL and just route, it will not be possible to allow DHCP packets only and tunnel reset to controller.
Before connecting VIA:

After VIA connection established:

As per above route, user would be able to reach default gateway, DHCP server and DNS server even if VIA connection is established
