Wireless APs - What Causes The Roaming Process For A Wireless Client?

Jun 15, 2020 10:55 AM

Q:

What causes the roaming process for a wireless client?

A:

* The client has missed too many beacons from an AP

Beacon frames are transmitted in an interval/periodic manner. Their function is to send out the presence of a wireless LAN and to synchronize the members of the service set.  An access point  (AP) transmits the beacon frames in an infrastructure basic service set (BSS)

* The maximum data retry count is exceeded.

* The client has reduced the data rate.

Data rate is the data transferred speed between two devices which is a mega bits per second (Mbps) measurement.

* The client intended to search for a new AP at periodic intervals.
